RSVP Now: October Events

The NGO Committee on Freedom of Religion or Belief in New York is pleased to announce several events the last week of October featuring UN Special Rapporteurs and academics working in the field of freedom of religion or belief. Our event schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, October 25, 1:00 p.m.a Committee members-only luncheon with Ahmed Shaheed, the incoming special rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief. RSVP by October 21 to unforb@gmail.com
  • Thursday, October 27, 3:00 p.m.: a lecture University of Nebraska law professor Brian Lepard on “International Legal Protection of Freedom of Religion or Belief: New Challenges.” RSVP by October 24 to unforb@gmail.com
  • Friday, October 28, 10:30 a.m.: a discussion with Karima Bennoune, the special rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, on the relationship between her mandate and freedom of religion or belief. RSVP by October 24 to unforb@gmail.com

All of these events will be held in in the Bahá’í International Community United Nations Office, located at 866 UN Plaza (Suite 120), New York, NY 10017.

The Committee is also promoting and co-sponsoring two related side events at UN Headquarters:

  • Thursday, October 27, 5:30 p.m.: a discussion of the new report by the special rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, Karima Bennoune, on the destruction of cultural heritage. This event is sponsored by the UN Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. More information can be found here.
